The Thinking Space

The Thinking Space

We are genuinely excited about the prospect of developing our Thinking Space product.

This will be a resource that allows teachers to engage students when they are dysregulated to help them take a self-directed course of pyscho education and learning regarding their feelings and emotions.

In the June 2022 National Behaviour Survey, teachers reported that, on average, for every 30 minutes of lesson time, 6.3 minutes were lost due to misbehaviour. Our time and attention in the classroom is frequently spent tackling this.

The EEF’s Improving Behaviour Guidance Report recommends that, alongside managing misbehaviour, ‘the general climate for learning can be improved through the explicit teaching of learning behaviours.’ This explicit teaching of the emotional, social and cognitive behaviours required to thrive in learning could be part of a school’s wider strategy to raise pupil attainment, particularly for socio-economically disadvantaged students.

Sadly, many schools and staff simply do not have the time and capacity to teach these vital social and emotional skills.

Our resource is aimed at using the existing and developing technology available to us to make this task easier.

Would you be willing to help us by allowing a small cohort of children to test our new platform?

Here's what you need to know

Who is involved?

We have just begun a project with a group of Social Science students at Bristol University. The project is based on a concept we have been working on called The Thinking Space.

What is it?

The Thinking Space is a Social and Emotional intervention tool.

Who is it for?

It will be targeted at students between the ages of 8 – 12 – (we will look at expanding this age range at a later stage).

How will it work?

  • The (Thinking Space) platform will be accessible through the internet on a tablet/laptop/computer.
  • Teachers will be able to give children access to the platform on their chosen device.
  • Once on the platform, the children will be taken through a self-guided range of steps in emotional regulation and pyscho education about feelings and behaviour.

What would we like from you?

To make a better product, the software will need to be tested by the end user i.e. the children.

We would like to know if there are any children/spaces in your setting who could be given access to the platform for testing purposes? And if you would be willing to help us by participating in this exciting project.

We believe that once fully developed and functional, this product will provide a vital and needed resource for children and young people everywhere

Please get in touch if you require more information and/or wish to take part.

Thank you, Robert
